페이스북이 이어준 스웨덴과 한국의 20년 인연

20대 스웨덴 청년, 페이스북으로 자신의 수술 집도했던 심영기 연세SK병원장 찾아 감사 인사 전해

(아주경제 강규혁 기자)한 스웨덴 청년이 페이스북을 통해 20년 전의 인연을 찾아 화제다.
　
　그 주인공은 스웨덴인 오스카 스팽크베르그(Oskar Spångberg)씨와 연세SK병원 심영기 대표원장.
　
　심 원장은 13일 “20년 전 스웨덴 웁살라대학 유학시절 왼쪽 엄지손가락이 잘린 네 살 어린이를 미세현미경 접합수술로 치료해 준 적이 있는데 지난 월요일 페이스북을 통해 자기를 기억하느냐는 연락이 왔다”고 밝혔다.
　
　현재 의류회사 H&M의 프로젝트 매니저로 활동 중인 오스카씨는 페이스북을 통해 심 원장에게 보낸 편지에서 “네 살 적에 세 살 위인 친구가 잘못 휘두른 도끼에 왼손 엄지손가락이 완전히 절단됐다”며, “당시 웁살라대학에 초청의사로 온 한국인 성형외과 전문의 심영기박사가 접합수술을 해줬다는 얘기를 어머니로부터 자주 들었다”고 말했다.
　
　오스카씨는 ”현재 잘렸던 손가락은 원하는 대로 잘 움직이고 있다“며 ”심 원장에 대한 고마움은 평생 잊지 못할 것“이라고 감사의 말도 잊지 않았다. 더불어 수술 후 심 원장과 함께 찍은 사진을 간직해 오다 이번 편지와 함께 보내왔다.
　
　한편 심 원장은 ”20년이 지났는데도 수술해줬던 의사를 잊지 않고 찾아줬다는 사실에 의사로서 보람과 행복을 느낀다“고 말했다.

　Dear Dr Shim.
　
　Without hope of you remembering, I would like to take the chance to thank you for re-attaching my left thumb, now almost to the day 20 years ago.
　
　When I was 4 years old, I nearly lost my left thumb after an accident where my 3 year older friend held and swang an axe, and I fell under it.
　As my mother has described it, you were in Uppsala, Sweden as a guest surgeon specialized in plastic surgery. And God knows I am forever grateful for that.
　
　Attached is a picture of the two of us at the time, the 11th of November 1990.
　
　Now, more than 20 years later and thanks to you, the thumb is working as nature intended it to work, and I use it daily in my work as a project manager at the international fashion and retail company H&M.
　
　It has a pretty cool scar around it, which amplifies the quality of the story when I am telling it for friends.
　
　If you have a regular mail address I would happily send over some pictures of the thumb in its current state.
